What Would You Do With It Wednesday???

It is time for another What Would You Do With It Wednesday?
It is the one day each week were a blogger asks YOU "What would you do with it?".  Check out this post for more info and to join in!
Do y'all know Lindsay with Living with Lindsay?  (Isn't she awesome??)  She is posting her item for WWYDWI Wednesday below...so y'all hang on we will get to her in a minute...
First we have to see what Katie from On the Banks of Squaw Creek did with her vintage tapestry from last week.  Take it away Katie...

Wow!  This has been such a fun experience!
I totally put off my projects until the last minute.  I wanted to do something fun and interesting, and out of my comfort zone, and that stressed me out a little bit. :)
Here is a glimpse of my projects using this tapestry.  There is still some left, so I think I will make some more!
1)  Burlap wreath with “flowers.”

I love these flowers!  I am going to make some more and sprinkle them around my living room and dining room.   For a tutorial, visit my blog here.
2) Tassel.  I’d never made a tassel before!  I’m not sure it’s my thing (or maybe it’s just this one in particular) but it was a fun experience!  This may be one of the projects I look back on and think, “What in the he** was I thinking?”

3) Pillow.  I LOVE how this turned out.  I was hesitant to do a pillow because that seemed boring, and I really wanted to wow you guys, but I think the striped fabric pulls it all together!  I coffee dyed the fabric to get it just right, and had an interesting night whipping this thing together.  Read about it here.
All in all, this was a great experience!  I felt more pressure to come up with something creative, since I knew all of Angie’s followers would see this!  And it forced me to get something done in a timely manner.  Cutting that fabric was SCARY and I’m pretty sure I never would have done anything if it wasn’t for Angie and all of her followers!!!

Thanks so much Katie -- it has been a blast and SUPER job!!  Now it is time for Lindsay with Living with Lindsay!!  I am just too excited that Lindsay is here with little ol' me!!  Y'all be sure to check out her blog and her awesome etsy shop.  She is super sweet AND talented -- the whole package!  A virtual round of applause please for Lindsay...

Hi guys! This is Lindsay from Living With Lindsay. I was way too excited when Angie asked me to participate in this week's What Would You Do With It Wednesday, as I have the PERFECT item!
If you read my blog, you know that I absolutely love scouring thrift stores to find items that I can be used for unintended purposes. As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing that spray paint and a glue gun can't handle. About a year ago, I found this piece at Goodwill for $2, and it just had to come home with me.
Here's the problem, though: It's just been sitting in my closet for a year as I have no idea what to do with it! I've thought of using it as a planter, a magazine rack, a children's book rack, a spice rack...nothing is jumping out to me screaming, "I'm the answer!" With a new baby on the way, I'm thinking this could definitely be used in my soon-to-be daughter's nursery, but I'm not sure how.
If you were me, what would you do with it? And what do you think it's intended purpose is supposed to be?
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Give Lindsay any ideas you have then stop by next week to see what she does.
Do you have an item you don't know what to do with?

Baby on the way? That would make a perfect diaper caddy! Stack the diapers in it, and find a cute little somethin' to hold your butt creams and wipes. We had a little basket on the end table in the living room like that, so we could change a diaper in an instant. Maybe it's not big enough, though? I'll keep thinking!

My first thought was that Lindsay's item could be used as a wipes package holder. I am always looking for the wipes when I have the baby on the changing table. Maybe it could be painted to match the nursery colors and bolted to the wall so that the wipes are always in one place. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
Sarah

I agree with both of the above. I was thinking, in that top curved part, attach a piece of slim wood to the back & paint, put your daughters name on the wood. Paint the whole thing of course, add some ribbons or a bow somewhere & use it to hold diapers if it would hold enough or use it to hold the creams, powders, etc. I have something much like this & it originally came with three different height clear glass square jars. They were painted w/ flowers on the front & the metal was painted to match. I got it in the late 90's. Can't wait to see what you do!

I have something similar hung in a window in my kitchen with herbs in terracotta pots set in it.

I am sure there are lots of other fun uses though, so I will have to check back to see all the ideas

How about use it to hold little pots with herbs in the kitchen?

I don't know how big it is but how about putting some mason jars in it and filling them with some pretty flower? You could also throw some candles in the jars & tie some ribbon around it. Maybe putting some silverware in them and making some cute labels & using it as a silverware caddy. Wow....the possibilities are endless. Can't wait to see what you do with it :)

I was thinking diaper caddy too, but I also really like the most recent suggestion of jars & flowers.

Diaper caddy, YUP!! My first thought too (really, lol)I think it indeed was used for little flower pots with herbs in it. Love the iron thingamajig anyway. I have something like that, want to hang it on my front door (some day) and put little plants in it.

Hugs

I don't know if you've jumped on the number craze like me but I would find either 3 square white jars to fit inside and paint a black number on each jar. If you can't find white jars you could paint the inside of the jars with white paint and then paint the numbers on the outsides. It could be used for q-tips, cottonballs, tubes of diaper cream that sort of thing in the baby's room. I can't wait to see what you come up with! Linda

Hmm ... not sure what theme you are going on for the lil princess's room, but you could mount it on the wall and fill it with some childhood classics like Goodnight Moon and Pat the Bunny. Functional and decorative! Otherwise - I like the idea about using it as a wipe holder!

I have something that looks very similar to this and I've it in a guest bathroom with rolled up hand towels before but am now using it in my kitchen for rolled up tea towels.

I do like the ideas about using it for diapers/baby stuff..that would be super cute!

My first thought was to use it as a silverware caddy, too. It's a neat piece, tho. No wonder you bought it!

Nancy

I was thinking it would be great to hold hand towels across the back bar and wash cloths rolled up in the basket section. you may need to put something in back as a buffer or a shim to have space between the wall and the back of the shelf to fit towels on the top bar but that would be an easy fix. A little paint of your choice or keep it black and hang it on the wall! Hope this helps

I am closer to grandbabies than babies, so all I can think of is 3 bottles of wine in the kitchen!

I would make a cute ruffled liner perferably that adorable tan, and make it a diaper caddy!!

You could use it for books and toys in the nursery or cookbooks in the kitchen or towels in the bathroom. I think it is a great piece that has many uses!

When I saw this on your blog, I immediately thought diaper caddy. Not a seconds hesitation in my mind. Painted a creamy white to go with the theme of the nursery and stack diapers in it.

Wow! So many great ideas. I think everyone is definitely on to something with all the nursery ideas. I love them all. The only other thing I can think of is to put mason jars in it and use to hold all her little hair bows, etc. Maybe instead of numbers you could do A, B, C on the jars in the colors of her room? Or paint a different flower on each jar, or crowns? Congratulations on the new baby Lindsay. I had no idea and I guess I missed the post! Is your little boy excited to be a big brother?

How about a untensil holder for cookouts and such. Make a "basket" with dividers for untensils and napkins?

My idea is a fabric liner that matches the room. Then use it to hold lotion, baby shampoo, etc. Then it has a "handle" and you can carry it to where ever you need it!!
Thanks so much Lindsay for posting!! :)

My first thought was to put a basket inside, then I figured that would be tough to get a perfect fit. 2nd thought was multiple sorting things, cups, tins, etc...to hold goodies. But definitely some ribbon or something on the 'O's up top. Good luck!

It would be so cute to spray paint it white, fill it with three bright-colored cups and use it to hold silverware (or plasticware!) at your next party!

I first thought silverware caddy (but that can't be used in a nursery!). But it would also be great as a caddy for art supplies or baby stuff (as suggested above). I don't know what your nursery colors are going to be, but I think it would be great painted white with galvanized tin buckets inside.

I have something like that in my kitchen and I use it to hold my olive oil and vinegar bottles. The one I have is actually an iron stand for potted plants, but I imagine if you hung yours on the wall it could be used for the same purpose.

I think the others here all have great ideas. Personally, I see it with some clear jars to hold the needed items such as cotton balls, qtips, creams etc. Or, surprise the big brother with a similar idea to hold art supplies like crayons, brushes, etc. Really like the wipe idea if you could somehow find a basket to fit, or line with fabric, that way it makes the one-handed job easier with them in a holder. Can't wait to see your creativity shine on this one for sure.

Thanks for linking up to Whatever Goes Wednesday at Someday Crafts!

I'm jumping on wipes-holder bandwagon. I would tie all sorts ribbons and laces of different colors and textures into ruffle-y knots all across the handle. I dropped in from Blue Cricket. Hope to see you back at my place soon! until later...

I'm thinking of a little coffee station...put the sugar bowl and creamer/accessories at the bottom and get a couple of hanging hooks for the top bar to hang 4 cute coffee cups...

I remember when I was nursing that I always needed a drink nearby and often I wanted something to read if they baby was taking awhile. I would attach your item to the wall near the chair where you will be nursing and use it to hold your cup and book now. (Our baby's room was so small that a table for the same purpose was in the way most of the time.) Later, when the baby is older, I would use it to hold books to read to the baby while you sit in the chair. Maybe you could attach the letters for the word READ on the straight bar that runs along the top. I'm anxious to see what you decide.

I think I'd make a cell phone charging station out of it. First, I'd probably beef it up a little bit by adding some bead board to the back and then add a little drawer at the bottom to hold the cords. Then you could set it on the kitchen counter and would always know where your cell charger is. If I didn't do that I'd most likely use it for a guest room and fill it with small essentials that a guest may need when they stay over.

I think that you should put a board across the top of the box, making it a shelf. Then put some angled front glass jars or baskets in each slot of the box for cotton balls/qtips/other baby stuff.

What a wonderful idea, WWYDWI. Hmm, how about a spice rack, mail sorter, planter box with address in the front?

You could spray paint it to match the colors in the nursery and hang it above the changing table to hold diapers, or other items such as baby lotion, baby oil, a glass container with safety swabs, Desitin, etc. It would be really cute spraypainted a pink or a bright green. You could also use it in a bathroom to hold rolled up hand towels or toilet paper rolls if it's big enough.

Hello! I would give it a coat of heirloom white, cover the top curved part with some burlap, and stencil something on it - like a number or your baby's initials. Tie a hang tag in the front w/twine. Or hang a piece of chip board in the shape of a little hand or a heart. Put mason jars in the bottom and fill with Qtips, cotton balls, etc. for baby's room!

It was probably originally meant to be used as a planter.

Blessings,
Marie

I see it as a bath caddie: three bottles / jars (bubble bath, bath salts and bath beads)
Or
A silverware caddie: three containers - possibly jazzed up soup cans (spoons, forks, knives) for outdoor eating
Or
A condiment caddie: ketchup, mustard, mayo, pickles, A1, Bbq - all the stuff you need to eat a burger or enjoy a meal in your outdoor space!
What a fun challenge! LOVE some brainstorming! Thanks!

Whenever I'm stumped on a good thrift store find, I like to turn the object on its head. Literally, turn the object upside down to get a glimpse of its possibilities from a different angle. In your case, it might just work best upside down on the wall.

Are you still with me?

Prep: Paint the sucker heritage white or one of your nursery colors.
1. Turn it over and attach it to the wall with brackets from the hardware store.

2. Add a dowel rod in the loops (now on the bottom) to create a baby quilt rack because there always seems to more blankets than baby!

3. Get some padded satin baby girl hangers and load up the top with all the dresses that will flood into your life with a baby girl (trust me I have 3 girls!)

4. Place one favorite stuffed animal and your babies first letter (3D painted decor) on the top of the rack (former bottom)

Okay, sorry if that WWYDWI description makes no sense! But, in my head it looks beautiful!

Can't wait to see what you end up doing with the piece!

I would put it near the changing table/dresser/area, mounted on the wall (so as she gets bigger she is not as likely to grab stuff) and put the glass/plastic (looking like glass) containers in it for the things you need. . powder, wipes, lotion, and LOVE the idea of stenciiling on letters - initials would be great, or make cool labels on your computer and put those onto the containers. Thanks!

What about with jars for craft supplies or office supplies?

I think it would be beautiful in a bathroom~ maybe cabby chic it, have rolled towels and your favorite pretty bottles of lotions and perfume, or oils, make it to hold all things for a wonderful spaaaaaaaaaaa!!
Enjoy~ what a wonderful find!

Uses for the thing-a-ma-jig. . .In the bath or kitchen rolled towels would be great. Next to a phone with note pads and pens. Outside the front door with a cute chalkboard silver tray inside saying something like Princess Baby sleeping. . please knock. In the craft room with jars of small items or rolls of ribbon. In your laundry room with small tins to hold clothes pins, stain sticks, etc. The uses really are endless. Now don't you wish you had bought more than one!!! :)

Remember when the milkman used to deliver the bottles of milk to our door?..It looks like the carrier he used to carry them in//or the ones the milkos used in Australia in my childhood.
How about it being left out on your doorstep to hold the things you need to remember to take with you! Painted and decorated of course.

It looks like it would hold three bottles of wine just perfect!

You could put shampoo, baby oil, and such. Then use the top and sides to pin your babies bows on it. Make it kinda of like your baby's caboodle, I think thats how you spell it.

diaper stacker was my first thought (and it was an original one too ;-]) I would line it with a pretty fabric and have it fold over the top but only about an inch or less so as not to hide the iron work. You could also ruffle it with a line of elastic about an inch or so down and then that woudl also secure the liner around the box. Dressing it up with flowers, butterflies, lady bugs or whatever. Just my .02 :)

The top bar lends itself to hanging things! I think kitchen measuring cups? or what about keys and a place to stash mail?

love the diaper or towel holder ideas from above... how about using it in the kitchen. fill with jars, buckets or cups and place your spoons in one jar, forks in another...
