Okay time for y'all to help me! I found this basket for 25 cents at a thrift store. It is old, worn and gorgeous. Problem is -- I have no clue what it was used for.
So what do y'all think? It is about 18 inches across. I have included pictures of the front and the back. It is just a flat basket.
Here is a close up of the patina. I really do think it is old but I wonder what it could have been used for.
So y'all weigh in...google is getting me no where!

It might be the lid to a bushel peach basket.
Not really sure but I am thinking a tabacco basket looks like the ones I have seen :) Cheers Frances

when we were little, we found those and used them as shields to battle our terrible foes all summer long. im certain that is what they were made for!
I believe it is a lid to a bushel basket for peaches or apples. Would make a gorgeous base for a wreath like arrangement on a front or side door!

Peach basket lid. I've seen these a lot years back.
We used the baskets down here in Louisiana for most produce. That is the lid and the slat that goes across the lid was for 'locking' it in place with the metal handles on the basket.
