Sunburst Mirror with Paper Ephemera

I wanted to jump on the sunburst mirror bandwagon!  But with my own spin of course!
So do ya like??  Wanna make your own?  You will need:
1)  Paper ephemera in various types -- I used three sizes of sheet music, manilla paper, paper doilies, and brown craft paper.  Here is a copy of one of the sheets.  You can print your own sheet music if you want.  Tea dye the pages to get that dark color.  Yes mine are the real thing with natural patina but you could do this a million ways.
2)  A back -- I used a wood charger.  You could use some strong cardboard in a pinch.
3)  A round mirror about 6 inches in diameter or another size that you love.  Don't want this to be a mirror?  Add something else to the center and make this a wreath!
4)  Hot glue gun
5)  Scotch tape
Just start off making cones out of one of your papers.  The large cones are made out of 9x9 inch squares.  It took me 32 large cones.
Cut the craft paper into 9x9 squares.  Then roll them backwards to keep them flat.  Then roll into cones.
The doilies I cut in half and made cones.  These and the medium size cones are 6 3/4 inch by 10 1/2 inch.  It took me 31 medium cones.
The manilla paper and the smallest sheet music is 5 inches by 7 3/4 inches.  It took me 30 small cones.
I made about a 3 inch circle in the center of the charger as a guide.  I would recommend right now to add a ribbon loop to the back for hanging....yes I waited til the end and it makes it harder!
I then layed about my large cones.  Glueing them on with a small line of hot glue on each one.
Another tip....raise up your project with something underneath.  It will make your life easier!
I layed out each layer before glueing to get a good idea as to where I wanted the cones.
Then glued each one with a line of glue.
Finally laying out the last layer.  Yes this project takes a while...but it is worth it!
Glue the last layer of cones on.
I then glued my mirror in the center.
All that is left is to admire....
Love the contrast of textures!!!
Now to find a place to hang....
Lovin' it...seriously lovin'.....
At 25 inches in diameter...this makes a big statement!
Another option for making your own...I am going to list a lot of vintage paper ephemera that you can use to make your own mirror or wreath!  I have a limited amount of this sheet music so get it while you can!
Get to crafting! :)

Shabby Rose Wreath for Fall

Do y'all remember my Shabby Rose Wreath?  I decided I am ready for fall so I redid it!
I removed the wreath from the frame and pulled off all of the white shabby roses.  I then covered the wreath with burlap.
I cut some fall colored fleece into about 1 inch strips.  I literally just twisted it and put it into a rose shape.  Securing with hot glue.
I mixed in the white shabby roses with the fall colored one.  Plus some green fleece leaves.  The hot glue gun did all the work.
I painted the frame a deep dark red and attached the wreath with...you guessed it...hot glue.
Lovin' the touch of fall!

My Very Own Driftwood Sailboat -- Blogger Inspired

When I started seeing driftwood sailboats around blogland...pure love...  I mean if I am going to do a coastal theme at the river cabin, I have to have a driftwood sailboat.  It is a must.  Top priority.  Non-negotiable.  Y'all understand, right?
All that you need is two perfect pieces of driftwood, some leftover material, wood glue, and your trusty glue gun.  I used wood glue to put the two pieces of driftwood together.
Cut the sails to size and used hot glue to put those in place.
The hardest part is waiting for the glue to dry.  I am very pleased with the way this one turned out.
I staged this up for y'all but this one is headed to the river cabin.
Do y'all want your very own driftwood sailboat?

The Mighty Glue Gun -- have you ever used your gun like this?

Yep we talked about white treasures yesterday but I have another.  Not another one you say...  Trust me you are gonna love it...
Especially when I say I made it from this...
...using a glue gun...yes a glue gun.  I got this idea from Make the Best of Things.  You will need hot glue, tissue paper, fleur de lis on paper, mod podge, and your victim pitcher.
I just cut out my fleur de lis and used it as a template to get my glue on.  Yes hot glue right on that pitcher in a fleur de lis shape.
(It is okay right now to think "this chic is crazy".)
Scrunch up that tissue paper and tear it into pieces.  Mod podge it right on to your victim.  Over your hot glue detail.  All over the piece.  It will get a wrinkly appearance and hide all those wrinkles in your glue job.
Let dry and spray paint.
Now I stopped here cause I love it just like it is.  You can keep going like Make the Best of Things and add some darker paint to highlight.  So whaddya think?  Like, love, hate?  Still think I am crazy?

Teen Week -- Day 1 -- Frame Jewelry Holder

All this week I am going to be showcasing projects for my teenager's room.  These can of course be used in other kid rooms or adapted for you!
Day 1 is a jewelry holder frame.  I have seen these all over blogland.  So y'all know I had to try one of my own!
I just took a frame I already had that had broken glass.  Paint it black.  Add a two layers of black netting in the center with the trusty staple gun.  I was lucky enough to get my netting for 38 cents in the remnant bin!  Some upholstry tacks along the bottom for necklaces.  A piece of scrap fabric stapled on as a hanger.  And I used some hot glue all around to make sure it was not going ANYWHERE.
I love it!!  Stay tuned all week for teenage room fun.   (Okay can you really say a teenager's room is fun??)  Just one request -- don't even ASK for before pics of the room...sigh....

"Balling" in Love with Jute and Rope

What would a week of balls be without jute and rope?  I just had to include them with my fabric and sheet music versions.
For the first "mini" set, I used jute and itty bitty styrofoam balls.  And my ever present glue gun.
One of them I glued the jute two different directions.  Note:  You do not have to glue every bit of jute down.  Just some gluing every now and again holds it fine.  Be sure to glue the start and finish though.

Then the other way.

For the second jute ball I started and went all one way.
Hmmm...I think the one way version looks better and is a bit easier too.

Now for the rope.

I wrapped the rope in 4 rows one way.
Then 4 rows another way.  Again you don't have to glue the entire strand just every now and again -- plus both ends.
Then another 4 rows.

And finish it off by going the way you did with the first four rows.  Finish the top and bottom til the styrofoam is not showing anymore.

I think it gives this one a little bit of a woven look.

And the bowl gets a little fuller!  Stay tuned tomorrow -- yep -- BURLAP!
