Our no sew fleece blanket obsession....

Have y'all ever made a no sew fleece tie blanket?  Sooooo super easy!  My teen found the instructions in Seventeen magazine and our obsession with 'em started before Christmas.  I googled and found some instructions here for ya. So far we have made three of these quick and easy projects.  My 17 year old and my 11 year old both made one all by themselves.  When it came time to make the 6 year old one, I had to give a little assistance.  This is him helping out though....
Joanne's had their kits for 50% off after Christmas.  Keep an eye on them if you want to try this one.  I think it is $16 for the kit after the discount.  Plus your kids get the satisfaction of having a blanket that they made all by themselves!  That is priceless!
The football kit in the picture actually came from Walmart for around $17.  It is intended to be sewn.  But you can use the instructions online with the fleece in those kits as well.  Worked like a charm.

How to make sweater pumpkins -- NO SEWING!!

Last year I made no sew sweater pumpkins from sweater sleeves.  They are still going this year!  So when goodwill had sweaters for 99 cents....I decided to go BIGGER!!  No sew BIG sweater pumpkins...
Ready for a tutorial??  It is basically the same as last year but I thought I would repeat it for all of you new to the CCC.   Gather up your sweaters...99 cents each at goodwill for me!!
Start by cutting off the bottom of your sweater...
Cut your piece into two...
Turn it right side in and gather up each end with a rubber band...
Use the opening to turn it right side out...
Stuff it til you are happy with it!  Then just hot glue your seam closed.  Don't be skeptical!!  It works and more importantly it holds up great!!
Now these next steps I did not do on all of my pumpkins.  I will go through the steps then show you a pumpkin without doing these steps.  I used hemp cording (found in the jewelry making section).  Rub your hemp threaded needle all the way through your pumpkin...
Then run your cording around the outside, then through the middle again.  Repeat until you have 5 or so "sections" to your pumpkin.  Tie off your cording...
What happens if you skip this step??  You end up with a tall pumpkin instead of a squatty one with sections.
Now for the stems.  I had some mini grapevine wreaths so I took them and cut them in half, then wrapped them with twine.  You could totally use a stick that is slightly curved...
I went a LITTLE crazy making pumpkins.  All shapes, sizes, textures....looove....
I also added some bits of grapevine around them stems for a little something extra...
Here is another one where I added the sections...
A total of six pumpkins to display for Thanksgiving...
My fave??  The fuzzy ones!!  This was a rabbit hair sweater...it is soooo fuzzy and soft!!  Perfect pumkins!!
And this is one of the striped ones from the tutorial above....
These look great all piled up and ready to display...
Maybe you have a sweater in your closet already that you don't want anymore??  Go get it now and get busy!!  No sew your way to some fabulous fall home decor!

Wearin' o' the green

Need some green for March??  Try a fabric rose headband....yep...you can make your own!
Remember the shabby rose wreath I made?  Well I made a not so shabby rose for this headband.  You will need a length of green fabric about 3 inches wide and a headband.  Plus another smaller square of fabric.
Start with the long piece of 3 inch wide fabric and fold it in half right sides together.  Sew all the way down the side.  Then turn it right side out...
You end up with a long tube like this...
I turned both ends under and sewed to get a finish edge...
Then on a smaller square of fabric (start with about the size you want your rose), begin sewing your long tube in the center of the square.  Sewing in the center of the tube.
Sew around in a circle.  As tight as you can get it.
Continue around and around staying in the center of your "tube".
Finally you will get to the edge of your square of fabric.  Then I just cut off the remainder of my tube.  Turned the edge in and sewed.
Trim your square around your rose...and you have a not so shabby rose!  In green!  I just hot glued it to my headband.
I don't know how all these bloggers take pics of themselves....sigh...this is what I ended up with...
I will stick with taking pics of it laying down!! :)
So if you don't want to wear the standard St. Patty's day attire...make yourself a headband to wear your green!

Sweater Sleeve Pumpkins -- NO SEW!!

Sweaters say warm.  Sweaters say fall.  Why not make one into a pumpkin?  Or two?
Now ain't they cute??  What do you need?  A sweater sleeve!  No sewing machine...I swear!
Cut it into three pieces.  Or two if you want to make bigger pumpkins.
Turn your piece inside out and put a rubber band tightly on each end.  Cut a small slit near the seam of the sweater arm.
Turn the piece right side out through that slit you just cut and stuff it til it's full.
Hot glue that seam closed.  Yep hot glue.  It will work...promise...  Then take a needle and embroidery thread and go all the way through the pumpkin through the center.
Keep going around the pumpkin and through the middle about 5 times in 5 different places.  Makes it all pumpkin like.  ;)  Tie off your thread and I added a bead at the top with hot glue as my stem.
Mix it up and add a variety of things for stems!  I made two of these beauties!
Too cute!  And from an old sweater!!
So I have given in and added this touch of fall to my home.  Yes it is like 95 here...sigh...

Changing out my wreath...shabby rose style

I am that girl....the one that doesn't want summer to end.  The one girl in blogland who is not ready to hang fall leaves on her door.  But starfish?  I still had starfish on the front door.  So I changed it up a bit.
Now do you wanna know how to make it??  Start with some scraps of fabric...yep scraps.  I tore some sheets into 1" strips...any length really.  And some leftover white canvas cut into squares.
Start in the center and sew the long strip to the canvas.  Sewing the middle of the shabby strip so you have both shabby edges up when you get done.  In the center, you will have to stop your machine with the needle down.  Lift you foot and physically turn the material.  But as you sew round and round in a circle it will get easier to just turn as you are sewing along.
Keep pushing up the material so the shabby edges are up.  You don't want to sew those beautiful edges back down.
Trim your canvas like the one on the right when you have completed your sewing.  See the longer your strip the bigger the rose.  So play with it.  Get different size roses.  Then gather up a wreath (I covered mine in torn sheet strips).  Plus a frame painted...for me blue was the color of choice.
I just glued my wreath to the frame.  And then the roses to the wreath.
Okay...maybe in a few weeks I will embrace fall...
