For the Love of Books Bathroom -- the details

Head on over to So You Think You're Crafty and vote for my Love Sign Knock Off if you haven't already.  The last day is tomorrow and the voting is close!!
Last week the theme on SYTYC was Children's Literature.  I submitted my For the Love of Books Kids' Bathroom.  Here are all the details in case you want to copy any of the items I used....

We will start with this wall grouping.  The frames are a hodge podge of ones I owned and ones I purchased at the thrift store.  I picked a color scheme and started painting the frames in a variety of colors.  The picture "mats" are all scrap book paper that I had on hand.  All of the vinyl quotes for this entire room I cut with my Silhouette.

I tried to incorporate a variety of my kids' favorite books.  Some classic and some newer titles.  I started by scouring the net and pinterest for any printable book quotes and pages.  I also stalked the thrift store.  I did not want to tear any pages out of the books we owned and loved to read.

The above Dr. Seuss picture and quote came from 364 Quotes in 2011.  I picked this particular version because I adore having the cat in the hat on it!  If you search around, that quote is available in tons of options.

The above printable came from my friend Michelle on The Scrap Shoppe.  She even has it in different colors if you want another version.  I fell in the love with the colored version.  I also added quite a few other elements to the bathroom to remind my kids to read...

This was a thrift store sign from the 80s.  I painted over it in that pale yellow.  Then covered up with the letters R E A D and painted a dark grey around them.

My oldest daughter loved pooh when she was little...okay so she still does at almost 18!  So I could not leave him out.  The above picture was found on pinterest but alas had no original source.  I did not find a source but here is my pin if that helps.

Last but not least is a page out of a beloved book.  My son LOVES this book!  I picked up another copy at the thrift store and used it for my framing.  The book is called Easy Street in case you are interested.  Next up is the bathroom shelf...

Again lots of framed book pages.  I had to include Arther....

Plus more Winnie the Pooh (he has the best quotes).  Some starfish and some kiddo painting also got added to the shelf...

Oh yes, I also added READ to a little container in scrabble letters.  Scrabble letters definitely belong in a book themed bathroom, don't you think?

For this little arrangement, I stole a page from a Corduroy book and added some vinyl to the wall...

Why yes I do have a chest of drawers in the bathroom!  This lovely jewel actually holds all my tablecloths, linens and things.  I don't have a place in the kitchen and this works just fine.

I took a Mickey Mouse book from the thrift store and made myself a runner for the chest of drawers.  Just torn out pages and tape.  Absolutely nothing fancy but it is oh so cute...

The towel holder that I spray painted ended up on this chest of drawers.  A few book stacks and some beach themed accessories...

See that old Horton Hears a Who book??  That one was in the free box at the thrift store.  They were going to RECYCLE it!!  Seriously.  They throw out vintage books that are not in the best condition.  I rescue as many as I can....but it is hard....

That is all for my bathroom tour.  I hope you enjoy my bathroom redo as much as we do!  It is a great improvement.  So bright and cheerful now!  Plus, I hope it encourages the love of reading to continue to blossom in my kids...

Thrifty Adventures

Every year 'round these parts there is a yard sale and craft fair event that rocks my world!  Miles of yard sales, junk galore, plus crafts and good food to boot!  It is a can't miss event for me.  This year was goood!!  Great weather and the bonus....it was not crowded!!  Do y'all know what that means??  People are willing to deal!  So when I saw this box....
Oh yes old books!  And can you see what that piece of tape says...
I quickly scanned the books and decided I could definitely use them.  I counted them and there were 10.  I offered the guy $5.  50 cents a book sounded like a complete steal to me....
He said no but he would take $10.  I was willing to walk.  But I had one more thought.  I told him I would give him $10 if he threw in the wood crate.  (GORGEOUS wood crate y'all.)  He said no that he was not selling his crates.  I said okay and turned to go.  Guess what???  He stopped me and took $10 for the books AND the crate!!  Heart stopped...seriously...I would have given at least $5 for the crate....
So that was the major steal.  But there were many, many goodies to be had.  These are just some of the great finds.  Some will be making their way onto etsy, others into my home.  The stack of doilies -- I have a plan y'all.  A little crazy but maybe it will work!  Course if it does I will be blogging about it!
Can I go anywhere without getting a mini bottle to add to my collection?  The answer would be "no".  This one was only 50 cents so it definitly did not break the bank....
PLUS he threw in a PUREX bottle for FREE y'all!!  Yes another S-C-O-R-E!!
So Rhoda stopped doing her Thrifty Treasures party for the winter but I just had to share my deals with y'all today!
Did y'all find anything good this week?  How do you like those books??

Today's thrifty finds are actually vintage gifts from a dear reader and friend!  Many thanks Tricia for my box of goodies...I am in loooove!!  Two pieces already found a home....
Two Fire King creamers in white!!  Lovely....
Gotta show off the bottoms y'all....
I love the shapes!!  The white pitchers I had here that were thrift store cast offs will probably once again find their way to a thrift store!!
You have to make room for authentic fire king goodies!!
They joined a few pieces that I already had...
And who said that creamers belong in the kitchen??  These are beside the TV in my bedroom!
Tricia you made my day! :)  I truely hope we can meet soon!!  HUGS!!

Thrifty Finds -- Vintage Milk Caps

I have been wanting some caps for my vintage milk bottle for-ev-er.  I never could find any that were not on a bottle -- an expensive bottle at that.  So imagine my surprise when I was chatting with a family friend about antiques and vintage items...and he GAVE me an entire HANDFUL of vintage milk caps!!
Completely unused and in PERFECT condition!!  Can y'all hear me jumping up and down from there?
I have a rather large milk bottle collection and it was not quite enough for all of them but I am proud as a peacock of the ones I did get!!
I am absolutely obsessed with the Tennessee milk bottles...
There is just something totally awesome about milk bottles and their shape....and now mine look even more complete with the little cardboard cap...
Did you have any amazing finds this week?  Or amazing GIFTS in this case??

Thrifty Finds -- Galvanized Planter

What happens when you see a gorgeous galvanized planter for $1.49??  Oh yes...you buy it QUICK!!
Gorgeous and worn plus a little bit rusty...it is perfect...
Even drain holes in the bottom if I ever want to use it outside....
But I had indoor plans for this one.  I have quite a few plants in the living room and thought it would add a great rustic touch to drop them -- pots and all -- into this beauty...
Rust next to green...looks perfect....
I also could not resist a fall touch.  I took my pottery barn knock off wood bowl and filled it with pumpkins and gourds.  Plus right up front is one of my no sew sweater sleeve pumpkins from last year!
I am so happy with the rustic touch this adds to my living room!!

Thrifty Finds -- Sewing Notions and Bingo Cards

One of my favorite things to find at thrift stores is sewing notions.  It occured to me that I had never blogged about em.  I found three items this week for 25 cents each.  I pick these up when I see them.  Then when I go to do a project, I may very well have the materials I need already in my sewing cabinet! :)
So I always make sure to look through the sewing notions at any thrift store!  Also this week I found then GREATEST vintage bingo game!!  I have decided there are waaaay too many vintage bingo cards for one girl...so I have put them up in my etsy shop.  If y'all are in need of some vintage bingo cards drop me a line!
Did y'all find any treasures this week?  Be sure to link em up at Rhodas!!
