My first thought is to create a more defined space for the office with a built-in desk and shelves (most likely in white). It would make it seem more like a separate work area, and keep things organized. I picture something that would take up roughly the same amount of space as the current office furniture does, but more streamlined (rough sketch gives you a very general idea of what I mean – it’s not to scale!). Basically you would have a work surface, closed or open storage on either side, and rows of open shelving above (with boxes/baskets to hold a lot while keeping things neat).
If the budget allows, I’d look at replacing the TV stand with an armoire-style stand (again in white to keep contrast down and keep things light). This is great for keeping visual clutter (TV, dvd player, etc) down since everything is corralled behind closed storage – and you can just close the doors when you’re done!
I absolutely love the office area recommendations!! My wheels started spinning!! And one thing she mentioned was utilizing that closet by my couch for more storage. This was one of those “duh” moments for me. That closet is a mess. It is completely under utilized and yet I could not SEE that!! Amazing really what a second set of eyes on your space can do!! I do love the idea of the TV solution and a different couch. That might be in the budget one day… For now I think that Heather definitely gave me some quick, low cost tips that could really change up my space!
