Chunky knit blankets are all I see when I scroll through Instagram. I swear they are in the home of everyone I follow and they just look so darn cozy. I mean couldn’t you just sink down into one on the couch right this second? I am sort of obsessed. I personally would like to try to make my own but there are plenty of options out there to buy as well. I have been doing some research and thought I would share it here with y’all. You know, just in case you are drooling over chunky knit blankets as well. And if you haven’t ever seen them, you are in for a treat!

They look amazing right? Now that I have you hooked, it is time to explore just how we can all have one of our very own! First of all, this tutorial from Nourish and Nestle promises you can make one in just one day. Now that is my kind of project! She has video as well which is totally what I need if I am going to make this successful. She actually uses flag poles to knit hers….flag poles!!
The most common technique I have heard of for making one of these is arm knitting. You can see the blanket that Dukes and Duchesses make with this technique here.
You can actually find a great tutorial for arm knitting by clicking here.
Now you are going to need yarn if you are going to make one of these great chunky knit blankets yourself. Hymns and Verses recommends using wool roving. I must say her handmade blanket looks divine
I found a few listings on Amazon for both chunky yarn and wool roving that I think will probably work. I need to narrow down my options but thought I would give you all of the ones I found that looked promising:
- Super Soft Handspun SMOOSH Yarn
- Super Chunky Roving Yarn
- Chunky Merino Silk Yarn
- Couture Jazz Premiere Yarn
- 13 lb Roving Fiber
- 100% Wool Chunky Yarn
There is even this kit I found that comes with everything you need to make your own blanket!
Don’t want to make your own version? There are tons of options to purchase one as well! Check out the options below on Amazon.

I bet you can make a mermaid tail blanket with this. It is very easy to make and no need for expensive things.
