What You Will Need

  • Fabric in print of your choice
  • Fabric for lining
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure
  • Sewing machine and thread

Instructions

  • Measure the height of your window from the curtain rod to the floor and add 5 inches to that number.
  • Cut your fabric to the correct size.
  • Fold the fabric in half and cut down the center. I left the selvedge edges attached because they will be hidden by the seams, but you can remove if you are worried about it.
  • Measure and cut lining fabric (if you're adding it) to the same width as your curtain fabric. Leave the length long as it will be trimmed later.
  • Match the curtain fabric with the liner fabric, putting the right sides together. Seam allowances are 1/2 inch, unless otherwise noted. Sew in this order:
Start on one side 2 inches down from the top and sew up to top. (Skip this step if you DO NOT want extra material above your curtain rod.)
    Sew across the top.
Sew down opposite side 2 inches (again, skip this step if you DO NOT want extra material above your curtain rod).
Skip down to accomodate a rod pocket. Mine was 1 1/2 inches but if your rod is larger you will have to skip a larger area. Sew all the way down the side stopping 2 – 4 inches from the bottom.
Repeat the previous step on the opposite side.
  • Turn the entire thing right side out so you can press all of your seams well.
  • Now it's time to sew across to create the curtain rod pocket. You will need to lines of stitching at.
The first measurement will be at 1.5 inches (which is 2 inches minus the seam allowance of 1/2 inch).
The second measurement will be 1 1/2 inches down below the above calculation plus the 1 1/2 inches we skipped down for steps 4 and 5.
  • Hang your unfinished curtains.
  • Trim the lining material to length. Fold the curtain fabric over.
  • Take your curtains (rod and material) down and sew the bottom hem with a 1/4-inch seam allowance.
