What You Will Need

  • Wood slice  (get one that is large enough for your child's hand)
  • Orange craft paint
  • Black paint pen
  • Paintbrush
  • Sawtooth hanger (if desired)

Instructions

  • Start out by letting your child choose their favorite paint color. My tip for getting good handprint art is to put the paint directly on the hand with a paintbrush!
  • Once you've done that, press the hand onto the center of the wood slice. Make sure to try to get all of the fingers and the palm of their hand.
Gently remove the hand and wash away the paint.
  • Once you've applied the handprint, allow it to dry completely before continuing.
  • Prime a black (or any color you like) paint marker until it is writing well.
Add "hooked on" with whatever name the child has for their father or grandfather.
  • Paint on a fish hook, line, fish eye, and mouth. Be sure to add the name and year so you will not forget!
  • Allow everything to dry completely before adding a hanger to the back if you want.

Notes

  • You may have to go over all of the writing a few times with the paint marker to get the same look as on my handprint art.
