What You Will Need

  • Clay pots I would recommend dry-fitting your pots in the store until you come up with something that will work.
  • Patio Paint in red, black, white, aqua, and yellow this is the perfect paint for terra cotta
  • Paintbrushes
  • Glue use a glue good for outdoor use (I used DAP Rapid Fuse)

Instructions

  • Start by painting your terra cotta pots. The bottom pot should have "feet" like the image below. Note that the pots will take about two coats of paint for full coverage. Apply one coat, allow to dry completely, then add a second coat.

  • The face pot should look something like the below. I just free handed all of the painting on this piece.

  • The sleeve pieces should be painted aqua with yellow trim (or other colors of your choice). The main body piece should be in these same colors but add a collar and three buttons down the front. When it comes time to glue your pieces together, make sure all of your paint is completely dry. Then glue the head, body, and legs together. Also glue the "hand" pieces into the arms during this stage. Let those dry completely.
  • Once both of those are dry, you can begin to glue the arms to the body. You will need a few items to help support your arm and hold it in place while drying. Glue one arm, allow to dry, then glue the second arm. The hardest part of this project is allowing your pieces to dry! Patience is really the name of the game.
  • Once both arms have cured, you can add a plant in the head and this one is ready for your porch or patio.
