What You Will Need

  • pint mason jars with at least one smooth side
  • adhesive vinyl in any color
  • black spray paint
  • scissors
  • craft knife
  • 3D black paint writer
  • hot glue and glue gun
  • spider webbing
  • fake spiders
  • small foam ball
  • popsicle stick
  • white fabric scrap
  • pumpkin trick or treat bucket miniature
  • marker
  • miniature basket
  • miniature black cat
  • cheesecloth
  • black cloth

Instructions

How to paint the mason jars:

  • Cut the vinyl into a oval like shape with scissors and adhere to the mason jars.  Press down the edges well.
  • Spray paint the jars.  Also spray paint the lids black while you are at it.  Allow to dry then lift the vinyl off of the jars.  If you have any issue, use a craft knife to cut around the vinyl before lifting.
  • I then used a black paint writer to outline the window that I created on the jars.  Allow that to dry completely before continuing.
  • Now we need to add some spooky things to the inside of the jars to finish off these mason jar crafts. I will show you each jar individually and explain how I created the scene inside.

Black Spider Mason Jar

  • For the first version, I just added some fake spider webbing and put a black spider inside.  Use your hot glue gun to secure everything into place.

Ghost in a Jar

  • For the second version, I added a little ghost with his pumpkin trick or treat bucket.  Add in whatever miniatures you like to this one but I really love the trick or treat bucket idea.
  • The ghost is a foam ball on a popsicle stick covered by a white piece of cloth.  I used a marker to make the face.  I used hot glue to secure everything on the ghost and inside of the jar.  There is also a small piece of spider webbing on the bottom of the jar.

Black Cat Mason Jar

  • The third jar has a rickety fence and a black cat inside.  The fence is actually the miniature basket cut into a long piece. The jar also has a small piece of cheesecloth in the back and some black cloth in the bottom.  Again I secured everything with hot glue.
