We have Jen Goode back again this month with a fun DIY pom pom garland that is perfect for March!
Today, we're grabbing some yarn to make a fun pom pom garland for Saint Patrick's Day. I'll show you how to make these classic yarn balls you can use to decorate. Choose a single green yarn, or get creative with a rainbow of pom-poms.

How To Make DIY Pom Pom Garland
Before we dive into our pom pom making, I wanted to mention a few things first!
Yarn pom poms are pretty simple to create. You can create a variety of sizes simply by adjusting the size of your template. String the finished pom-poms together for a fun garland, and you instantly have a cute decorative piece for your festive celebrations.

You can use the pom-pom garland you create as part of a decorative display. Layer different garlands together for different looks. I like mixing the yarn with cardstock cutouts for a fun design. You can use the alphabet printables to create a banner to accompany your garland, too!

Supplies Needed To Make DIY Pom Pom Garland
- Yarn
- Scissors
- Cardboard
- Paper cut shamrocks (Get a free shamrock cut file from Jen's blog)
- Glue
Step 1: Create Cardboard Template
Cut a piece of cardboard about 1.5″ wide and 4″ long. This will be your pom pom template.
Step 2: Wrap Yarn Around Cardboard
Wrap yarn around the template as shown below.
Step 3: Cut & Tie Yarn
Cut the wrapped yarn and then tie the bundle, leaving a longer length of yarn.
Step 4: Trim Pom Pom
Using the scissors, trim the pom-pom until it forms a dense ball of yarn.
Step 5: Tie Each Pom Pom To A Piece Of String
To create the garland, tie each pom pom to a string of yarn.
Step 6: Cut & Glue Shamrocks Between Each Pom Pom
Cut shamrocks and glue them between each pom-pom.
I hope you have fun making all kinds of pom poms to use for your St. Patrick's Day garland. Here's a little secret: I created all the green pom poms in my example, but I found the rainbow garland at the Dollar Spot at Target. Pom poms are pretty popular in the party sections these days, but they don't always come in all the colors. Making your own is a great way to add extra fun to your party decor.

I don’t have any idea how to string my Pom poms together to make a garland
You can either use a needle to push the string through the middle of the pom or tie the string right around the center of the pom.
