How To Make Clay Pot Mushrooms
As spring approaches, I’m preparing our backyard and planning my garden.
A while back, I painted stones to look like mushrooms, and I was obsessed! They are the perfect addition to a fairy garden or to add a touch of whimsy to your outdoor space.
I also love the pop of color they add to a naturally green space.
Terra-cotta pots are incredibly versatile, and today’s project is no exception. This is just one of my easy clay pot crafts that I’m excited to share with you today.
Grab the supplies listed below and follow our step-by-step instructions to create this adorable mushroom decor for your backyard.
Supplies Needed To Make Clay Pot Mushrooms
- Clay pot
- Clay pot saucer
- Outdoor paint (my favorite is Americana Decor Outdoor Living)
- Paint brush
- Round sponge brush
- DAP Rapid Fuse

Step 1: Paint Clay Pot & Saucer
Begin by painting the clay pot white, and then paint the saucer in your chosen color. I selected red for this project. This process will require approximately two coats of paint.
Allow the paint to dry between coats. Be sure to paint both the bottom and top of the saucer, as the bottom will be visible.
Step 2: Add White Dots
Once the paint is completely dry, you can add white dots to the saucer. Use a round sponge brush to apply the paint in a circular motion. Repeat this randomly to create as many circles as you’d like. You may need to apply multiple coats of paint to achieve the desired effect.
Make sure to let your paint dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Step 3: Add Adhesive To Pot & Saucer
Add adhesive between the pot and saucer, then stack with books or heavy objects, and allow it to dry.
Once cured, your mushroom decor is ready for your garden! Look how cute it is!

These adorable clay pot mushrooms are perfect for adding a splash of color to your yard. You can choose different paint colors for the tops of the mushrooms to match your style. Another fun idea is to create several mushrooms and paint each one a different color from the rainbow! They are not only cute but also very easy to make.

I adore my clay pot mushrooms, and I’m adding them to our backyard for a whimsical touch!
