How To Make A Driftwood Sailboat
When I first discovered driftwood sailboats, I instantly fell in love. If I’m going to create a coastal theme at the river cabin, having a driftwood sailboat is essential—it’s a top priority and non-negotiable. Y’all understand, right? So, follow along and learn how to make your own driftwood sailboat!
Supplies Needed To Make A DIY Driftwood Sailboat
- Two pieces of driftwood
- Leftover material in white or off-white for sails
- Wood Glue
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
Step 1: Glue Drift Wood Pieces Together
Once you find those two pieces of driftwood, make sure they fit together to form the boat itself, as well as a mast. You may need to cut the pieces to size or sand them down to achieve a perfect fit.
Then, use wood glue to join the two pieces of driftwood together to form a boat. Support the two pieces together until the wood glue has dried completely.
Step 2: Create Sails & Glue Them To Driftwood Boat
Cut the scrap material you have chosen for your sails to the perfect size for your boat. I ripped my fabric, so there would be frayed edges, but you don’t have to. Then I used hot glue to put the sails in place on both sides of the mast of the sailboat.
Once the glue has dried, you’re ready to display your driftwood boat.
The most challenging part of this entire project is waiting for the wood glue to dry. I am very pleased with the way this one turned out. Now that you know how to make a driftwood sailboat, the only question is how many will you make for your nautical-themed home?
I staged this up for y’all, but this one is headed to the river cabin. If you want to see more nautical-themed decor, check out this beach-themed bathroom on a budget!
