Christmas Storage Ideas
Storing Christmas decorations can be a real challenge! How do you keep all your decorations safe and organized for an entire year before using them again? Have you ever tried to untangle Christmas lights? It’s not fun, so we are sharing some helpful tips and tricks to pack away your holiday decorations this year, ensuring they are perfectly organized when you take them out next year.
1. Ornaments Storage
1. Ornaments Storage
Christmas ornaments are often among the most fragile decorations that need to be stored for the holiday season. How do you protect them and keep them organized? I found some great storage options at Old Time Pottery. I have always thrown all of my ornaments into one large bin. It is a pain to dig through, and some end up broken. This Christmas ornament organizer changes all of that!
Now, there is an easy way to organize them, so you won’t have to dig through the large bin to find what you need. Use the dividers in the organizer to put in layers of ornaments and separate them all individually. No more broken ornaments, yay!!
I recommend getting a storage container for each color of ornament. If you’re anything like me, you probably have several color options for your tree each year. Once you decide on your color scheme, simply choose the box that matches and start decorating! These containers are see-through, but I suggest labeling the outside as well for easy identification.
2. Christmas Lights Storage
Let’s tackle organizing those Christmas lights next. After all, these are probably the number one Christmas storage issue that most people face: the dreaded tangled lights. Well, I have a solution for you there as well! Old Time Pottery has Christmas light organizers. Inside, you will find pieces to wrap your lights around. Then, just stack them in the container with the dividers. No more untangling lights! Zip up this cute storage piece and add it to a bin, or store it just like this.
Each container will hold three light strands, so be sure to calculate how many you will need for your Christmas decorations. I would also consider separating white and colored lights into two containers, so you know exactly which one to reach for, depending on what you are decorating.
3. Christmas Tree Storage
Ah, the Christmas tree! The center stage of many people’s holiday decorations. But why does it never fit back into the box? Struggle no more! Pick up a Christmas tree storage bag from Old Time Pottery, and you can ditch that box. Your tree will be protected and ready to put up next year.
4. Wrapping Paper Storage
Speaking of Christmas tree storage bags, while you’re at it, you may want to pick up two from Old Time Pottery. Why, you may ask? Well, I find that they are great for wrapping paper storage as well. They are the perfect size for all of those paper rolls and you can throw in boxes of bows and tags as well.
I have always struggled with what to do with my wrapping paper. Now, it is all in one bag, and I can pull it out each year, wrap my gifts, and put it back in storage.
5. Christmas Bow Storage
Speaking of wrapping, bows are another challenge you face when talking about Christmas decoration storage. I found two options that work pretty well. If your bows come in a plastic box, that box works great when storing them as well. Just don’t tear it when opening it, and you can use it over and over again. If your bows come in a plastic bag, I would pick up another one of the light storage containers from Old Time Pottery. Throw in your bows and zip it up!
6. Christmas Wreaths Storage
Christmas wreaths are large and hard to store. But you don’t want them to get damaged or dusty in storage. The answer is a wreath storage bag from Old Time Pottery. This bag fits even extra-large wreaths and zips up to protect the contents. You can then throw it on top of your Christmas boxes. No more dusty wreaths that have seen better days! Oh, and if you need a wreath like the one pictured, you can also get that at Old Time Pottery.
7. Christmas Decor Storage
What is left to organize? Oh yes. All of the other little things that you may set around your home for the holidays. Those miscellaneous items all need to be stored properly until next year. My best solution for all of these things is large plastic bins. I love this version from Old Time Pottery because it stacks so easily and is not too deep. I hate digging to the bottom of a super deep bin in search of that one small item. These Christmas decoration storage bins allow me to separate things into categories and put each in its own container.
Now I can’t wait to pull out all of my Christmas home decor next year. Everything will be organized and easily accessible. Head to your local Old Time Pottery and stock up on storage containers. You will be so glad you did when storing those decorations this year.
I hope y’all found some of these Christmas decoration storage ideas useful and will use them when you take down all of those decorations this year.
I have definitely been bitten by the organizing bug this year! So, stay tuned because I will have more ideas for organizing your home soon. For now, use this post for your Christmas decoration storage and you might find yourself wanting to organize all the things, as well!
Tips & Tricks For Christmas Storage Ideas
Now that you’ve seen these Christmas storage ideas, are you ready to get organized? Here are a few tips and tricks to ensure your organizing goes as smoothly as possible!
- Start With The Easy Stuff– If you have a lot of Christmas decorations, I recommend starting with the easy stuff so you don’t get overwhelmed! For example, start with organizing those easier items (like wreaths or knickknacks), then work your way to those items that are more difficult/time-consuming (like ornaments).
- Break Up Your Organizing Tasks- When it comes to those large organizing tasks (like putting away the Christmas tree), break them up into smaller tasks. Doing this will make the large task seem more manageable. For example, when putting away the tree, you could break it down into the following tasks:
- Store ornaments
- Store ribbon/garland
- Store tree topper
- Store Christmas lights
- Store tree skirt
- Store tree
- Take A Break – Organizing Christmas decorations is a lot of work! So, if you are feeling overwhelmed, make sure you take a break!
