Looking for the perfect homemade touch to elevate your fall table? Look no further than these DIY pumpkin napkin rings!
I don’t know about you all, but my dining table gets a TON of use during fall season! Between birthdays, Halloween, football watch parties, dinner parties, and (of course) Thanksgiving, my table is always busy.
Thankfully, that allows me to get creative and come up with some fun ways to dress up my space. My new favorite creation is these adorable fall napkin rings!
Fall Napkin Rings – Perfect for Thanksgiving!
Not only is this DIY cute, but it’s useful too. This is a quick and easy project that is perfect for your Thanksgiving table.
You can choose any colors that will work with your tablescape plans. I used a metallic yarn with gold gilding on my pumpkin because I like a touch of gold.
You can even get the kids involved with the yarn wrapping on these as well. I love a Thanksgiving project that involves the family!
Supplies needed to make these pumpkin napkin rings:
- Paper towel or toilet paper rolls (start saving these now!)
- Yarn (I used this metallic yarn.)
- Miniature pumpkins
- Gold Liquid Gilding
- Wood skewer
- Paint brush
- Hot glue and glue gun
- Scissors

You can see just how to make these pumpkin napkin rings in the short video below. So simple and so gorgeous!
Can’t watch the video or didn’t catch all of the steps? I have all of the directions below.
How to Make DIY Pumpkin Napkin Rings
First, remove the stem from the pumpkin. You should be able to just pull it off with a tug.
Then, insert the wood skewer into the crevice where the stem was previously. This is how you can paint the entire pumpkin without getting a mess all over your hands!
To apply the liquid gilding, hold the skewer in one hand, and use the paint brush to apply the gilding with the other. Set the skewer in a vase or over a shallow bowl so the pumpkin isn’t touching anything.
Next, allow the pumpkin to dry completely.
In the meantime, get your paper towel or toilet paper roll, and cut it into even rounds with scissors. This is what will be the actual ‘ring’ of the napkin ring.
You definitely don’t want to leave the cardboard as is, so let’s glam it up. To do so, add the yarn. Simply secure the end of the yarn with hot glue and start wrapping it around to cover. This is a great time to recruit kiddos to help you, or to binge a favorite TV series.
When wrapping is complete, secure the other end with hot glue.
Then, add the stem back to the pumpkin. Just make sure it’s dry! Next, secure it with hot glue to the front of the pumpkin napkin ring.
Add your napkin and enjoy!
What else can I use besides a pumpkin?
If a pumpkin isn’t what you were looking for, there are a lot of other ways you can jazz up a fall napkin ring! Here are just a few ideas to get you started:
- gemstones in your tablescape colors
- a single feather
- faux leaf
- florals
- wooden bead

All of these napkin ring ideas are super cute! I definitely want to make the pumpkin ones for the adult table and the paper tube ones for the kids table. I can totally see the little ones putting on a puppet show at the table with them. Too cute!
