A DIY patriotic banner is a quick and easy project for your home decor this summer. Add a touch of burlap with patriotic appeal. You can make this great DIY project in just minutes to hang around your home for a party or just decoration for the summer months. This one was originally posted over at Crafts Unleashed but I am posting here in case you missed it.
Supplies needed to make your own DIY patriotic banner:

- Burlap Triangle Flags (these are one per package) (they are like two thicknesses of burlap with a sewn finished edge so you can definitely make your own)
- Red & Blue Craft Paint
- Sponge Brush
- White Felt
- Scissors
- Star Printed from Computer
- Marker
- Jute Cord
- Hot Glue and Glue Gun (my favorite is this one from Adtech)
I was inspired to create this fun project from this original burlap banner at Pottery Barn. But I was not about to spend that much for a simple burlap banner! You can definitely make your own for a fraction of the price! Start by painting the burlap triangles red and blue with a sponge brush. Protect your work surface before beginning. Then apply a thick coat of paint to each one. Allow to dry over night before continuing.
In the meantime, you can work on your felt stars. Print a star shape from your computer and cut it out of the paper. Trace it onto felt with a marker then cut the shapes from the felt. You will need one star for every burlap triangle.
Once the paint has dried, assemble your DIY patriotic banner by using hot glue. Glue the stars to each triangle and the triangles to jute twine. Alternate colors as shown below. Make the burlap banner as long or as short as you would like by increasing or decreasing the number of triangles. Also note that you may need to trim the ragged edges from the burlap triangles when assembling.
I used my DIY patriotic burlap banner on my barn wood mantel. I love a small touch of patriotic decor in my home. You can also find the Southern Grammar Chart and Flag Button Tray on my mantel. The touch of burlap is perfect for the rustic farmhouse decor in my family room. Make your own DIY patriotic banner today!
Don’t like the triangles? You can also give this painted burlap banner from The Crafted Sparrow a try!
Hi Angie Hope your Monday is going well. Wish could say same for me, duh, trying to do too many things at once so consequently forgetting everything want/need to do. Trying to organize printouts have made. Have some in one spot, some in another, time to figure out what am doing.
Really loving both patriotic banners, think triangle banner would be quicker/easier to make but like rectangular one better, guess will think about it for bit.
We might be in Tucson over 4th. as we’re going to San Diego first to see oldest son and his boys whom will be there to spend time with their Dad from 6/15-6/28. We’ll be there for 4-5 days then go over to Tucson to see bestest friend and maybe niece and brother.
Depends on their mood if we see them or not. Haven’t seen brother for many years but he has bug up his butt so never know, he’s crabby old man, will be 81 in July. Wouldn’t mind just seeing niece.I was in Tucson in 2008, called him to see him but he never wanted to make connection. We’re only siblings and we’re not getting any younger, I’ll be 76 4 days before his b/d, his wife is always looking to make trouble, always has. Nothing can do if he won’t make effort. We don’t have lot of time due to rental car, takes two days to get home, I can’t drive distances. Ah well, will see at time. No wonder I prefer my friends.
Enjoy your week and happy crafting Angie/ Sure enjoy your blog

This looks so easy and cute. What an easy way to spruce up a mantel for the 4th of July.
Adorable! Great job!
These are great banners! I usually don’t have any burlap hanging around, so maybe I can figure out how to make it with cardstock. If you figure it out first let me know.
