Cowboy Birthday Party
You know we love hosting birthday parties around here! Case in point, you may remember that last year we had a zebra-themed birthday party for our birthday girl. Well, this year for our birthday boy, we traded in that zebra (figuratively speaking) for a horse, and had a cowboy-themed birthday party!
Today, I am sharing my complete list of party ideas to make your cowboy birthday party a success! I have tons of ideas for DIY decorations, cake, cupcakes, party favors, and even homemade wrapping paper. There is something here for everyone, so whether you want to DIY everything yourself or do a ”semi-homemade cowboy birthday party”, we have you covered.
Make a little boy happy in your life, and throw him a cowboy bash he will never forget using these ideas!
Cowboy Table Decor
Let's start with the table decor!
I first covered my wooden table with a red checkered tablecloth, which I thought added to the country feel. Then I made the monogrammed “M” for a table centerpiece. It can also be used in my son's room after the party.

To make your own cowboy monogram, you will need the following supplies:
- 12-inch papier-mache letter
- Red Checkered Washi Tape
- Wild West Stickers
- Faux Wood Scrapbook Paper
- Decoupage medium

Use the paper to cover up the front and back of the papier-mache letter. Once that is dry, add the washi tape to the edges of the letter. Then adhere the stickers to finish off your cowboy creation. My son loves his, and it looks great in his room now that the party is over.

On the other side of the table, I had a sign made for me by my friend Colleen from Just Paint It. Head on over to her blog for details on getting some free cowboy party printables, plus information on purchasing even more fun party supplies.

As a centerpiece, I used some of our wild west toys. My son said the bandanna needed to be green “like grass,” so of course I got a green bandana! There are also punched stars out of paper scattered on the table. The bandanna-trimmed napkins are from Oriental Trading.

Cowboy Garland
The garland I used is so super simple! Just tie up some twine and hang some bandannas over it. Yep, they are not secured in any way. Then I added cowboy hats on the ends of my curtain rod. So super easy, yet it looks great.

Cowboy Party Favors
Of course, we had to have party favors for our cowboy birthday party! My DIY sock stick horses went home with every child that came. Plus, they got to play with them while they were at the party.

I had the stick horses waiting on the kids in an old rusty milk can.

Each child also received a straw cowboy hat, a bandanna, and a stick-on mustache. The hats and mustaches came from Oriental Trading. The bandannas are all from Dollar Tree.

I will tell you that everyone, from kids to teens to adults, had fun with the mustache and sideburn packages. Be sure to order plenty cause they are hilarious!

Cowboy Wrapping Paper
I also love to customize the wrapping paper to my party's theme. I could not find any cowboy paper, so I made some.

I stamped some plain brown paper with a “SHERIFF” stamp I had. Actually, the birthday boy wanted to help, so he made his own wrapping paper.

Cowboy Cake & Cupcakes
All the details on the cowboy cake and cupcakes are in a post from yesterday. Be sure to check out how to make this great cake!

Plus, the cupcakes that went to school with the birthday boy.

Final Thoughts On Cowboy Birthday Party
All in all, we had a great birthday party. My little buckaroo had a rompin' stompin' time!

I hope you enjoy these party ideas for your next cowboy birthday party. My DIY decorations are easy for anyone to make and will look great for your next party!
Tips and Tricks for Cowboy Birthday Party
Now that you’ve seen this fun cowboy birthday party, are you ready to start planning your own cowboy party? Here are a few tips and tricks to help!
- Make A List Of The Basics – Before buying or DIYing anything for your party, first, make a list of the basics! Those basics being your party's budget, how many guests you are inviting, etc. Knowing all of this beforehand will help you greatly with planning the party and help you to stay on track if you are on budget.
- Change This Theme To Cowgirl – If you have a little girl in your life who wants to have a good rootin' tootin' time, you can change this theme to cowgirl! You can either recreate everything as is, or you can adjust the theme to feature pinks. rhinestones, and cowboy boots, so it's a bit more girly.
- Decide What You Want To Buy vs DIY – It can be really easy to think that you are going to make everything yourself for your party; however, realistically, it may not be the best option. Instead, decide ahead of time what you want to buy vs DIY so you can save time and money.
