Number Pillow -- RH Knock Off

Another snow day??  Seriously??  What to do??  How about a knock off?  A Restoration Hardware knock-off!
The original??

I wanted mine a little more rustic for the big boy room.  And cause it is a snow day project, I used what I had.  What do you need?
  • Foam -- I had some in the attic....doesn't everyone??  :)  I cut it into a square.  You can use a pillow form...I was just using what I had on hand.
  • Canvas drop cloth -- cut two same size squares -- I ended up with about 11 inches square.  Then one loooong piece the width of your foam plus 1/2 inch.  This will go all the way around the edge.
  • Ticking -- I used two long pieces of ticking to do my cording.  You can vary up the materials for different looks.
  • Cording -- an entire 9 foot roll -- maybe more depending on the size of your pillow.  I used almost a full roll.
  • Number stencil and paint or some other way to make your number.  You can do an iron on transfer...any way that works for you!
I used my Silouette to cut my number stencil and centered in on one piece of canvas.
I used craft paint in navy blue.
Let that dry.  You can start your cording in the mean time.  Now does cording scare you??  Yep it did me too.  Then I found...POLLY!!  Go ahead...go on over here and print this -- it is your cording and zipper BIBLE!!  Follow her cording instructions!!  She does an awesome job and makes it easy peasy!!  So start by running your cording through your machine...just like Polly told you!
Then for this pillow I attached cording to the front and back of pillow.  Yep...I used Polly's instructions...
See ya gotta break out that zipper foot...don't be scared of it!!  Cording on the front and back...
Now sew your loooong piece of canvas to the front...getting CLOSE to that cording like Polly told you to do.  Leave a little -- about an inch at the very start...
Sew it all the way around the front...and when you get to the end...
I just stopped right there -- cut off my canvas to size.  Then sewed those two ends together.  Then went back and finished the cording in that area.  Now sew that same loooong piece to your back using the same method and getting close to your cording.
The difference?  You are going to leave the bottom open.  I went ahead and did the corners on the bottom.  Turn it right side out through that hole.
Now I cut the corners off of my foam to make the corners look more rounded.
Then stuff your foam in your pillow...
Sew closed that hole...and you are done!!
Ca-ute...
And see...if I can do cording anyone can do cording!
Why a nine??  The big boy picked his fave number!
Let yours pick a number and get to sewing!
Want a big boy room sneak peek??
That gorgeous wood with the fab patina is in the big  boy room...
And it is NOT the floor! :)  Stay tuned!

This is awesome! And yes, I'm afraid of cording!

Love your pillow Angie! I used to sew cording long time ago when I worked at a furniture factory. Wasn't as fun then as it is now:)

Love your pillow! Your mastered the cording!

Love it! Looks better than the original!

Your pillow definitely looks better than the original. I love when you have everything you need on hand already. I found you at My Repurposed Life. I am your latest follower. I would love for you to come and check out my blog and follow me back at www.diybydesign.blogspot.com. Thanks so much. Looking forward to keeping up with your blog. I'm going to check out some of your older posts now.

Always a fan of ticking... Cute cute cute!!

It looks great and I'm sure it was a fraction of the cost!

Love, love, love this! I have to check out Polly's tute too b/c a lot of sewing projects scare the bejesus out of me!

Very good knock off. I am so impressed. I had to sew a box cushion once and I don't know if I could even do it again. It was hard!

Angie! I love your pillow. Great tute even for a non-sewer (lol not the pipe)
thanks for sharing at CCC and linking back!

Very Very Cute! I have all of that fabric, maybe I'll have to whip up a few for my boys.~Merrilee

LOVE this pillow! I just bought some drop cloth for the first time ever and this is inspiration to get going with it. And using ticking for the cording is genius! Thanks for sharing!

If you say I can do cording then maybe I can....lol... I love this pillow! Please come join us at the Project Party here: http://www.bubblynaturecreations.com/2011/02/project-party-weekend-make-your-blog.html

You are crazy!!! And your pillow is AWESOME!!!!!

m ^..^

I love the ticking! Although I have never done cording before. But I have some bar stools that needs some cushions.Maybe I will attempt some cording on those.

Oh my! I was just thinking, "Is that gorgeous wood her floor?" Can't wait to see it all! Love that pillow! I made my own cording ONCE on a pillow and the tutorials I used said to sew the cording on and around the pillow at the same time. It was a pain in the neck. I'm doing it your way next time. Thanks for including the cording links. GREAT project! Can't wait to see the entire room!

Angie, I don't know what I love more...the fab pillow or those gorgeous floors. ;) Thank you so much for including the link to the cording instructions! I've been looking for one that I could actually follow. :s I have a hard time with following some tutorials...I do better when someone shows me.

Thank you so much for linking to my "I {Heart} My Crafty Cutter" party! :)

I love this! I can do everything but sew though. lol You are very talented, I can't wait to see more!

Cool, Angie! I hadn't seen those pillows; yours looks awesome!
Thanks for joining!

Great knock-off. You make it look so easy!!! I love the ticking especially!

I love the combination of the ticking and the canvas. Great job!
