Father's Day Gift Idea -- Tools

Father's Day is fast approaching.  I admit it.  I lost track of time.  Do y'all ever do that?  I thought you might so I thought I would do a round up of some ideas for tools for dad.  If you are anything like me, you get in the tool department and get confused.  Which is the best?  Which one will dad like best?  Etc, etc.  So I did a little research for you on some drills.  Let's talk POWER!  Dad can't have a drill that is not powerful!  We are going to compare two drills from The Home Depot.

These two look similar.  But what is the Lithium Ion and Nicad?

Lithium ion is a technology that started in power tools in the home improvement sector and now crosses over to additional categories such as outdoor power, paint and flooring. The battery’s technology provides customers with a number of advantages over traditional NiCad battery-powered tools.

Hmmm...so the Lithium Ion has advantages?  Let's research a few of those.

  • Lithium ion batteries produce a consistent charge throughout the life of the battery. Ni-Cad batteries lose power as the battery runs.
  • Lithium ion batteries can be charged many more times than Ni-Cad batteries, and are not damaged by leaving the charger on too long.
  • Lithium ion batteries are lighter than Ni-Cad batteries, allowing for smaller more powerful outdoor and power tools.

So a more powerful, longer lasting tool?  I think dad would like that...don't you?  Okay the fact that the Lithium ion batteries can't be harmed by leaving them on the charger has me sold.  I am really, really bad about leaving things on charge....I can admit it.  Bonus for y'all -- the Ryobi batteries are interchangeable among the more than FIFTY power tools offered.  So even if dad already has this great drill, he might need another  RYOBI One+ tool!  The RYOBI 18V ONE+ Lithium Ion Compact Drill Kit is available at The Home Depot or online at homedepot.com/ryobi.

I am going to test drive both of these tools thanks to The Home Depot.  I will be giving you a full run down after I put them to the test.  Stay tuned for all of the details.  Until then, pick up your Father's Day gift in The Home Depot tool section and make dad one happy camper!
